During this one day introduction to flint knapping course students will learn the techniques of working with flint to create a variety of tools including arrowheads, drills, saws and blades which were used by our ancestors for everything from game precurment and processing to fine craft work.

Gain an understanding of quality material selection as well as what equipment is used to refine the flint down to effective and simply elegant tools.

This course is ideal for those who wish to further their understanding of knapping and general primitive technologies. Course Description

During this 1 day course we will explore how our ancestors and indigenous tribes have prepared animal skins to turn them into functional leather.

The focus of this course is to develop your understanding of tanning processes including bark tanning, working at each stage of the process to see how leather is made. Working with tanned skins that you will soften before making those skins into a pouch. 

Part of this course will also include fibre craft, making use of different natural fibres that can be used to stitch your leather pouch. Bone carving will also be a part of this course in order to produce buttons and toggles. 

By the end of the day students should expect to go home with a lovely tanned salmon skin pouch and a solid foundation of knowledge regarding hide tanning.
